Timing, It is all about your timing.

No this is not a Kung Fu class. It is serious business. You spend all this time working out and putting effort in and do not seem to get anywhere. Well a new study has shown that interval training is the best way to loose weight and tone muscles. This is because we are designed as humans to do two things. 1) small bursts of energy. or 2) long long slow energy release. You can see this in our ability to run 100m in less than 9 seconds or be able to run ultra marathons without dying. If you want to loose weight you need to get your muscles going fast, a lot faster than they are going right now.

Enter interval training. My favorite is High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT. It adapts to any exercise you are doing or any activity you are doing. I use it for push ups, sit ups, pull ups, squats, prisoner squats, and of course sprinting. You can and I have used it for long distance too. I use it for what I call pole sprints. I pick a distance and I run to a power pole then I sprint to the next pole then i run and i continue this until i run my distance. I will give a way a secret. This is the idea behind big name programs like P90x and Insanity.  I use this program and find it works amazing.
